Lifeways Practices

The philosopher Alan Watts is quoted as saying, "The menu is not the meal". This was his way of re-stating scholar, Alfred Korzybski’s, famous quote, “the map is not the territory”. We refer to these analogies in regards to education and care-taking to remind parents and guardians that mere regurgitation of letters, numbers, and colors does not demonstrate true growth and understanding of a child’s capabilities in their present environment. In an effort to build a strong, holistic foundation in our work with pre-schoolers we follow certain practices encouraged by the Lifeways program originated by Cynthia Aldinger.
